Pharmacokinetic / Pharmacodynamic (PK/PD)
PK/PD studies are an essential step to go from the in vitro studies to the in vivo studies
PK / PD studies
Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics are the main branches of pharmacology that is interested in the study of the interactions between both endogenous and exogenous chemical substances with living organisms. A drug’s effect is often related to its concentration at the site of action. Pharmacokinetics (PK) is defined as the study of the time course of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). Clinical pharmacokinetics (PD) is the application of pharmacokinetic principles to the safe and effective therapeutic management of drugs.
ADME : absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination
The ADME approach determines the kinetics of metabolism of the new drug in organs of interest, to get insights into the kinetics of bioavailability of the molecule.
